Yakaduru is a passion project, an attempt to create a jungle-camp-as-lodge that is both sustainable and luxurious. Only a 5-10 minute drive from Yala National Park, it’s a noteworthy camp where the painstaking attention to detail strikes you moments later: plenty of work has gone into the design, the feel of the complex, along with a number of exquisite small touches. The whole operation is extremely well organised, so you get the sense of truly being looked after while still feeling immersed in the wildness of the setting. There is a magical view of the sunset from the rock in the camp. The food is excellent, far better than you might expect from a camp. Meals are taken communally, which adds to the sense of shared experience and makes evenings feel warm and memorable. In our case, dinner included a dance and fire-eating performance by two young dancers. We stayed in the Gamunu house. Having a private pool in the jungle heat was perfect for cooling off after a safari, surrounded by nature. If you can, try to stay two nights. Yakaduru isn’t just a base for Yala—it’s an experience in its own right, and it deserves enough time to sink in properly.

Our stay at the family room at Yakaduru was exceptional. The staff was polite and friendly and soo talented as well. Loved the ROCK, and the sunset view from there. The tea on the rocks is highly recommended and an unforgettable experience. Thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon nature walk. Spotted some amazing birds and a cute bunny. Yakaduru is home to some incredible variety of birds and reptiles. Every moment is fascinating. The food was great as well. We enjoyed the barbecue night. The food was beyond delicious. Even Kuttu night was fab.

We stayed at the wonderful Yakaduru for 2 nights in the large family room. The workers go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and ensure your stay is perfect. When we booked the hotel we received a WhatsApp from them and we were able to book our safaris and activities directly with them which was great. ACCOMMODATION : our room was lovely and my children especially loved the fact our room had no walls. It was the perfect mix of not being in a tent but felt like we were experiencing something different than a standard hotel. FOOD : the food was lovely Sri Lankan local dishes but you can also add extras for picky eaters like my son, they were happy to provide fries for him! We booked the BBQ one night and this was the highlight, the food was amazing and the meat would probably have fed 10 people. SAFARIS : We booked a night drive, afternoon safari and morning safari through the hotel. We drove in upgraded jeeps, with priority access into the park (avoid long the ques) and had a tour guide as well as a driver. We seen a family of elephants with babies, lots of crocodiles, birds, lizards, mongoose, monkeys and seen 2 leopards in block 1. The drivers were all respectful of the animals and tried to stay separate from other jeeps once we were in the park so it felt really private. I would highly recommend Yakaduru, our stay was the highlight of our holiday. The staff are all very welcoming and go above and beyond to ensure you are happy.

I had a wonderful stay and Safari experience at Yala Yackaduru Safari. I stayed at the Yala Yacakduru Safari Camp, and although it was difficult to find at first, once we arrived we were welcomed by friendly staff. The warm welcome and the genuinely friendly, helpful and talented staff really made a difference. This is a really well run eco-friendly accommodation, and it is clear they truly care about the people who stay with them and the local community. They went out of their way to ensure my comfort and provide a memorable experience. Something I never thought I would do was spend 12 hours on a safari, but with our fantastic guide, Malindu, I happily did. His knowledge, patience, and enthusiasm made the entire day unforgettable. We were incredibly lucky to see two leopards, five elephants, and an amazing variety of birds and other wildlife. Loved it all.

Great accommodation, basic but beautifully designed and decorated, whilst fulfilling its environmental credentials. Fabulous food, fresh and homemade. But I came for the wildlife so the location being one of the closest camps to Palupatana gate was important. We managed to spot leopard, a sloth bear and a lot of ellies as well as deer, buffaloes, a mongoose grappling with a monitor lizard, turtles, star tortoises and some stunning birds - water birds, hornbills, raptors, kingfishers and many different coloured bee-eaters. Nishantha was a fantastic guide. He took us on a night drive to the fishing village on the coast just outside the park which was haunting, however the highlight was coming across a herd of ellies at dusk with young who weren’t that keen on our presence and mock-charged us. Back at base we were offered a show of traditional Sri Lankan dance one evening, and a delicious barbecue on the rocks another night. Also I should mention the heartbreaker server Sajid who was quiet, polite and beautifully spoken. In summary my stay in Yakadura could not have been more perfect. THANK YOU!

Unusual review, as we didn't manage to stay at Yakaduru as we were stuck in Ella due to Cyclone Ditwah. The Team at Yakaduru were great at providing advice and keeping us updated on the situation. When it became clear that we couldn't travel due to road closures, they allowed us to cancel without charge. If this service is anything to go by, I'd highly recommend booking Yakaduru, and hopefully we can visit in the future.

Wir hatten zwar nur eine Nacht im Yakaduru Yala Safari Camp gebucht, aber die hat sich mehr als gelohnt! Es war wunderbar, auch wenn wir leider nicht ganz so viel Glück mit dem Wetter hatten und den Gemeinschaftspool sowie die Anlage nicht voll nutzen konnten – wenn man es kann, ist es aber bestimmt wahnsinnig toll. Das Zimmer war einwandfrei und unglaublich sch?n, und abends wurde unser Bett durch eine R?ucherung komplett mückenfrei gemacht. Besonders hervorheben m?chte ich das unglaublich freundliche und zuvorkommende Personal. Sie haben den Aufenthalt noch angenehmer gemacht, als er ohnehin schon war – und das ganz ohne aufdringlich zu sein, wobei das in Sri Lanka generell nicht der Fall ist. Ich vertrage Curry Leaves nicht; das hatten wir zu Beginn erw?hnt, und obwohl das hierzulande eine h?ufig verwendete Zutat ist, waren alle extrem verst?ndnisvoll. Sie haben jedes Gericht überprüft und mir die Sicherheit gegeben, dass wirklich keine verwendet wurden. Das Personal hat sich immer wieder freundlich erkundigt, ob alles gut ist oder wir noch etwas ben?tigen. Wir haben uns au?erdem über alles M?gliche unterhalten – das war so interessant! DANKE an das tolle Team! Auch das Essen war 1A: mit so viel Liebe zubereitet und geschmacklich eines der besten unserer gesamten Reise. Gerne w?ren wir noch viel, viel l?nger geblieben.

Un posto davvero stupendo! L’atmosfera è accogliente e curata nei minimi dettagli, perfetta per passare una serata rilassante. Il cibo è ottimo, con piatti di qualità e una carne al barbecue semplicemente eccezionale, cotta alla perfezione e ricca di sapore. Il personale è super gentile, sempre sorridente e disponibile, capace di farti sentire come a casa. Di notte il locale diventa magico: le luci creano un’atmosfera calda e suggestiva che rende tutto ancora più speciale. Consigliatissimo a chi cerca una bella esperienza tra buon cibo, cordialità e un tocco di magia sotto le stelle.

I had such an amazing experience at Yakaduru from check in to check out! Firstly the secluded location which makes you feel like you are camping in the wilderness but without the “roughing it”. The staff are wonderful - they go above and beyond to ensure that your stay is the best is can possibly be. The accomodation itself is rustic with scrimping on the necessities, the food delicious and the nightly entertainment enjoyable. Another big draw here is the pool, great to cool off in. I went on both an evening safari (which includes a visit to a local fishing village) and a full day Yala NP safari that they organised for me and had the best time. So many wow moments! I highly recommend a stay here, you won’t regret it ?? ??

Staying at Yakadura in Yala was definitely a highlight that we will remember for the rest of our lives. It was so authentic and gave us a fantastic insight into the area. A very special mention to the staff and in particular Nishantha Bandara who was the perfect host. He was so accommodating and friendly and went out of his way to ensure that we had a wonderful experience. He is truly an asset to yaka and they are lucky to have him!
