The Bay Motel

With panoramic views of the Tasman Sea, The Bay Motel overlooks Halfmoon Bay on Stewart Island. It features a nearby golf course, a free shuttle service and free private parking on site.

All modern apartments include a seating area with satellite TV and a kitchen with fridge, microwave, tea/coffee making facilities. Rooms open out on a private balcony, with views of the bay or surrounding bush. The spacious rooms also offer free WiFi, electric blankets and individually controlled central heating.

Laundry service is available upon request. There is also a barbecue area in an undercover courtyard.

The Bay Motel is a 5-minutes’ walk from shops and restaurants; its location allows many hiking and trekking possibilities in the native forests of Rakiura National Park.

  • Guest：Lovely two night stay. Nice, spacious room. Well equipped kitchenette. Nice view out to the bay and easy walk down to town. Would recommend.
  • Guest：What a lovely place! The staff were so friendly and approachable. Nothing was too hard for them. The view from our room was to die for. The room was very comfortable and so close to town. We had a kitchenette so we could eat in all we liked. We loved it so much we have booked in again for next year.
  • Guest：We stayed here 3 nights. The hosts met us at the ferry and took our luggage up the hill to the hotel. We chose to walk up but others rode in the van. Our room was large and comfortable. We got a continental breakfast for an extra charge but we had it in our room. We had a small kitchenette. My only complaint was not observing our do not disturb sign. We slept odd hours due to a late kiwi walk and we're awakened to have our breakfast delivered for the next day.
  • Guest：We stayed here for one night at the end of our Stewart Island trip. We had room 2 which is beneath another apartment. The unit had all basic crockery and cutlery, a queen and single bed although we only used the queen bed. There was an accessible et room shower and toilet, a small kitchenette, a small tv with local channels, a dining table for two and a sofa for two. From the deck and surrounding suburbs we saw Kaka and Tui. The u it was extremely clean and free mill, body wash and shampoo/conditioner were provided, no lotion so bring some of that and bug repellent too. The owner was friendly and the resident poodle Toby stole our hearts. We would definitely return.
