I recently stayed at The Bell Hotel in Sandwich for my 40th birthday, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm and welcoming, perfectly complementing the character and charm of this historic riverside hotel.
The food was absolutely excellent—each meal was beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. Whether it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the menu had a thoughtful variety of options, and everything we tried was delicious. It’s clear the kitchen takes real pride in their work.
The location was ideal for our trip, especially as we were in town to play at the legendary Royal St George’s Golf Club, which is just a short drive away. After a day on the course, The Bell was the perfect place to unwind—comfortable, stylish, and relaxing. The rooms had a classic charm with modern touches, and the views over the river added a tranquil feel to the whole stay.
Celebrating a milestone birthday in such a setting, with great food and access to world-class golf, made the experience truly memorable. I’d highly recommend The Bell Hotel to anyone visiting the area, whether for golf, history, or just a peaceful escape.
We had a very pleasant stay at The Bell Hotel. The room was nice, simple and everything we needed.
Beautiful breakfast and we enjoyed the bar.
Would love to return!
Nice hotel in a nice little town
Check in was great. Managed to park right outside the door. Room was ok. Only real complain was the en-suite. Dated and the shower valve very worn and difficult to set a good temperature. Over all would stay again.
Charming old hotel. The property and rooms were clean and fairly well maintained. I don't think there's an elevator. I couldn't find a thermostat in the room and the room started off pretty chilly (I was there in late February). I'm not sure if they have A/C as well, though I'm not sure it gets that hot. The room was large and the bed was comfortable. It's definitely not a business hotel. The desk was small and there were few power outlets. I would highly recommend the hotel install USB plugs near the desk and bed night stands. It's 2025 after all. I had a room on the second floor in the front of the Hotel. Event hough Sandwich is kind of quiet, there was road noise early and late. so if you're a light sleeper, request a room in the back of the hotel. The breakfast looked good. The staff was friendly. The desk clerk helped me get a taxi when I was checking out (not an easy task in Sandwich). By the way, there is no Uber. Plan ahead if you need a ride.
Exceeded expectations. Will stay again.
We travelled with 3 small children and stayed in a family room. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Perfect for our family. Parking was only £1.50 and breakfast was included. Breakfast quality was excellent. Not a greasy spoon, no. This was a lovely, quality breakfast offering with something for everyone.
Will absolutely stay again. Great value for money.
