Perfectly positioned atop a hill overlooking the bay, Hillcrest has the potential to be something special. The location is excellent, the welcome was friendly, and the facilities including a pool, tennis court, and fire pit suggest it could be a real hidden gem. Unfortunately, several things missed the mark. The “renovated” rooms don’t quite live up to that description. A fresh coat of paint, new bed linen, and updated fixtures don’t amount to a true renovation. The showers showed signs of mould, and the drawers and doors appeared to be original from the 1970s and smelled like it too. It’s a real shame, as Hillcrest clearly has so much potential, but the renovations feel superficial and cost-cutting. We will definitely return to Merimbula, as it’s a stunning part of the South Coast, but unless Hillcrest undergoes a more thorough revamp, we wouldn’t stay here again.

Great price for a clean comfortable room. The view is insane! I always book here when I’m in the area for work. Get a room with a private balcony on the top floor.

Wonderful view. Crisp sheets and a spotless unit. Only the shrieking exhaust fan in the bathroom means you have to shower and use the loo without the light/fan on, open the window wide. Otherwise 5 stars.

The motel is a throwback to the ‘golden beach holiday’ era, with a thoughtful renovation / update of the rooms, lounge area, complete with tennis court, large pool, fire pit and wonderful separate outdoor dining and lounging areas around. The views are incredible and while it is close to everything you need, it feels close to nature and up in the clouds with sensational views. We were here as a couple and the team did a wonderful job recommending the right places to go for walk food and beverage. We would love to come back with a group and or family to enjoy everything the property has to offer.

A lovely revamped motel, very comfortable. We had great views and it was a full moon so great to look at moonlight over the water

Great retro style place. Leaning into the era in a really nice way. The Lounge is great and so was the playlist. We lit with fire pit with the Great GM Chris help and had a great evening with a nice Negroni and several nights there. Good overall value with the rooms being perfect for our needs

Wonderful stay in a lovely hotel! The room had a beautiful view and was nicely renovated, with a very comfy bed. Room was also very quiet which was great. If there was anything that could be improved it would be the quality of the towels and the shower door as it had a tendency to leak water on the floor.

We had a lovely stay at the Hillcrest Merimbula. Every few years we head to Merimbula to feast on oysters. The Hillcrest Merimbula allowed us to do this in style. Highly recommend the upstairs bedrooms. Worth the upgrade as the view is spectacular.

Amazing views beautiful garden and pool area lovely room with the best view comfy bed and super friendly staff we appreciated clean towels and cups everyday and our bed made couldn’t ask for better service we will definitely be back to stay again
